This video kicks off our bass boat to flats boat project and introduces the newest addition to Fishing with Kagan. Jerry steps out from behind the camera to explain how this 1986 Storm bass boat is being transformed into a shallow-water fishing machine designed to complement our kayak fishing. We break down what makes a true flats boat, why weight and balance matter so much, and where this build falls short in its current setup.

One of the biggest issues we uncover is hidden weight—waterlogged wood, poorly done past modifications, and heavy batteries that are holding the boat back. To start fixing that, we replace the old Group 27 batteries with lightweight lithium batteries from LiTime, cutting nearly 70 pounds from the boat while gaining space, better weight distribution, and Bluetooth battery monitoring.

This is just stage one of the build. In upcoming videos, we’ll continue stripping weight, fixing structural issues, and testing the boat on the water with a full fishing day in Stuart, Florida.
