The Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change certainly lacks common sense.
It has issued permission to Bear Grylls to shoot an episode of his ManVsWild documentary in Bandipur tiger reserve.
Like Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Corbett, Superstar Rajnikanth is promoting the documentary inside the core habitat of Bandipur, which is home to an estimated 140 plus tigers.
Had the documentary been made during and after the monsoon there wouldn't have been an issue. But...
The beginning of summer is a very critical time for the entire forest force. Everybody is working his butt off to protect/ save what little is left of our precious little forests and wildlife species.
But the decision-makers in MoEFCC seem to have no clue of what prevails in our forests at the advent of summer.
As much as 4800 hectares of forests were burnt in 2019. There was a massive fire in 2017, wherein a forest guard died due asphyxiation. In 2013 there was a massive fire as well.
The last three uncontrollable fires have consumed as much as 8000 hectares. That is a humongous loss. It will probably take 20 to 30 years for Bandipur to recover from those infernos.
While there have been vast advancements in science and technology, our common sense has hit abysmal depths.
