Manufacturing Process of Neodymium Iron Boron Magnets

Neodymium iron boron magnets are widely used in motors, sensors, medical devices, and more due to their high magnetic energy product and excellent magnetic properties. The manufacturing process involves several key steps:

Raw Material Preparation:

The main components are neodymium (Nd), iron (Fe), and boron (B). Other elements like dysprosium or gadolinium may be added to enhance performance.
Alloy Melting:

The raw materials are placed in a vacuum induction furnace for melting. This process ensures a uniform alloy and prevents oxidation.
Ingot Casting and Crushing:

After melting, the alloy is cast into ingots. Once cooled, the ingots are mechanically crushed to obtain powder of suitable particle size.
Powder Metallurgy Forming:

The powder is pressed into shape, often using molds. During this stage, a magnetic field is applied to align the powder particles, enhancing the final magnet's properties.
Sintering:

The pressed forms are sintered at high temperatures, usually in a protective atmosphere. This process allows the powder particles to fuse together, forming a dense magnet.
Post-Processing:

After sintering, the magnets are machined to achieve the desired size and surface quality through cutting, grinding, or polishing.
Surface Treatment:

To improve corrosion resistance, the magnet surfaces are often coated with nickel, zinc, or other protective layers.
Magnetic Performance Testing:

Finally, the finished products undergo magnetic performance testing to ensure they meet specified technical standards.
Packaging and Shipping:

Once tested and approved, the magnets are packaged and prepared for shipment to customers or markets.
