Hey, it’s Tony from LearnAutoBodyAndPaint with another Q&A session. Here’s a question from Gavin.

“Hey Tony. I’ve done a 2k single stage 2:1 ratio, with 20% reducer paint job. This is a single-stage on an SUV and have acquired paint runs from the 2nd coat up to the 3rd coat.

I flat-sanded it down and wet sand then buffed it out. The paint job came out fabulous but it’s just that I can still see the runs and I’m not happy.

I'll be painting or collecting the video again at the end of September to wax it. But, I would like to know how to remove the visible runs. The deep runs are on the doors. Any technique will be appreciated. I’ve tried accessing the VIP Program but I don't have a credit card so I can’t complete the payment option. Regards, Gavin.”

If you ran a solid color then sanded it and buffed it, you won’t see the run. On the other hand, it’s a different story if it’s a metallic run on a single stage.

The only way to fix it is to repaint that panel. Since it’s not a custom color, it will be easy matching it to our adjacent panels. You won’t have to do any blending. You’ll need to just repaint the door or whatever panel you have that run on.

You can’t get rid of that run mark even if you cut and buff it. You can, however hide it with a molding or a pinstripe.

This is a beautiful color, by the way. It’s very glossy and looks like a solid color. It might be a little metallic or pearl-ish in the sun.
