Rail and air services are limited in the inaccessible areas of the mountain. Creating a road network is also a very difficult task. Keeping these things in mind, the Government of India has launched the Parvatmala Project, which aims to improve transportation and connectivity in the mountain area. Recently the government has started 8 ropeway projects for a length of 60 kms. The most important of these is the Kedarnath Dham Ropeway Project in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. This 9.7 kilometer long ropeway will be built between Gaurikund to Kedarnath Dham. At present, it takes 6 to 7 hours to reach Kedarnath Dham by walking 16 kilometers and through a difficult path. Many passengers have to resort to horse or stick-candi. If you want to go by helicopter, then the fare is very expensive and tickets are also not available easily. With the construction of ropeway, Kedarnath Dham can be reached in just 30 minutes and its fare will also be reasonable. About 4 thousand passengers will be able to travel every day through this ropeway, built at a cost of about 1267 crores.
There has been a demand since the 80s to make Kedarnath Yatra accessible. A seven km road from Gaurikund to Rambada was also approved, but due to the Forest Act, the plan got stuck in the files. Therefore, instead of the road, the ropeway project has been chosen as an alternative, it will neither harm the forests nor will there be any need to cut mountains. The responsibility of the Kedarnath ropeway project has been given to the National Highway Logistics Management Limited of the National Highways Authority of India ie NHAI. Its DPR has been prepared. The work is expected to start soon.

भारत में 11,700 फीट की ऊंचाई पर बन रहा है, दुनिया का सबसे लंबा रोपवे। सबसे खास बात यह है कि इस रोपवे से आसान होगी श्री केदारनाथ धाम की यात्रा। आखिर क्यों पड़ी इस प्रोजेक्ट की जरूरत और यह कब तक बनकर तैयार होगा, आइए जानते हैं…
पहाड़ के दुर्गम इलाकों में रेल और हवाई सेवाएं सीमित हैं। सड़क नेटवर्क तैयार करना भी काफी मुश्किल काम होता है। इन्हीं बातों को ध्यान में रखते हुए भारत सरकार ने पर्वतमाला परियोजना लांच की है, जिसका उद्देश्य है माउंटेन एरिया में ट्रांसपोर्टेशन और कनेक्टिविटी को बेहतर बनाना। हाल ही में सरकार ने 60 किलोमीटर की लंबाई के लिए 8 रोपवे प्रोजेक्ट की शुरुआत की है। इसमें सबसे महत्वपूर्ण है, उत्तराखंड के रुद्रप्रयाग जिले में केदारनाथ धाम रोपवे प्रोजेक्ट। 9.7 किलोमीटर लंबा यह रोपवे गौरीकुंड से केदारनाथ धाम के बीच बनेगा। अभी 16 किलोमीटर के पैदल और मुश्किल भरे रास्ते से केदारनाथ धाम पहुंचने में 6 से 7 घंटे का समय लगता है। कई यात्रियों को घोड़े या डंडी-कंडी का सहारा लेना पड़ता है। हेलीकॉप्टर से जाना चाहो तो किराया बहुत महंगा रहता है और टिकट भी आसानी से नहीं मिलता। रोपवे बनने से महज 30 मिनट में केदारनाथ धाम पहुंचा जा सकेगा और इसका किराया भी रिजनेबल रहेगा। करीब 1267 करोड़ की लागत से बनने वाले इस रोपवे से हर दिन करीब 4 हजार यात्री सफर कर सकेंगे।
80 के दशक से केदारनाथ यात्रा को सुलभ बनाने की मांग होती रही है। गौरीकुंड से रामबाड़ा तक सात किमी सड़क भी स्वीकृत हुई थी, लेकिन वन अधिनियम के कारण योजना फाइलों में कैद हो गई। इसलिए अब सड़क के बजाय रोपवे प्रोजेक्ट को विकल्प चुना गया, इससे न तो वनों को नुकसान पहुंचेगा और न ही पहाड़ काटने की नौबत आएगी।
केदारनाथ रोपवे परियोजना का जिम्मा भारतीय राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग प्राधिकरण यानी एनएचएआई के नेशनल हाईवे लॉजिस्टिक मैनेजमेंट लिमिटेड को दिया गया है। इसकी डीपीआर तैयार हो गई है। काम जल्द शुरू होने की उम्मीद है।
