You are wasting your money if you service a Rolex or Grand Seiko watch every five years. Rolex, for example, generally will charge the same fee to service a watch after twenty years that they would charge after five years. For those who compare a watch to a car they are clearly apples and oranges. If you go twenty years without servicing your vehicle you will have major costly failures. Not so with a Rolex. Rolex “services” twenty year old watches that were never opened everyday and generally will charge the same fee as any other service. In fact they quote the service cost before they examine all the parts for wear. Generally the only additional fees they will charge are for items like crystals, hands, dials, etc. Those are often optional and should be turned down if you want to maintain your watches original status. Once the watchmaker gets into the service they will replace any worn parts as part of the service at NO ADDITIONAL cost. So, the moral of the story is wait until your watch is not running properly and then have it serviced.
