Feux Follet is the 5th movement of the 12 Transcendental Etudes by Franz Liszt and has become by far the most difficult piece of music ever written. The extremely rapid alternation between the harmonic sixth and third/fourth/fifth intervals, using just one hand is extremely challenging.

So how do you go about playing Feux Follet or any challenging piece? First practice using just legato fingering. Do not under any circumstance use the sostenuto pedal. When you encounter difficulty it is even more important to resist the temptation to slam the sostenuto pedal down. Doing that may seem painful , but you will reap the reward later. Trust me! For most of us, there isn't a shortcut i.e. we can't maximise gain with as little effort as possible, it just doesn't work that way. However, there's a methodological and systematic way that makes learning more efficient instead of just doing mindless practice.
