INCIDENT DESCRIPTION
Just before 1:30 pm on August 20, 2024, the Seattle Fire Department responded to a water rescue near Pier 59, the Seattle Aquarium located at 1483 Alaskan Way, Seattle, WA. A person experiencing a mental health crisis had reportedly jumped into the water and was "swimming around" Elliott Bay. As units arrived on scene, including fireboats from Station 5 just a few blocks away, it was learned that the patient had made it back to land. The response was reduced to an ALS medical call, then further reduced to a single truck when it was determined the patient was in good physical condition. The incident lasted forty-nine minutes.

BEHIND THE SCENES
I had been kicking myself for missing a couple big scenes in SDOT-camera-view, but finally was in position to catch this one live. I can grab archive footage from SafetyVid, but it's much easier to edit from a screen recording rather than trying to piece together the scanner audio.

Though there weren't any water rescues the day I visited, I visited this area of Seattle a couple weeks ago! I even visited Fire Station 5, the station that the fireboats responded to and where Rescue 1 stages at in the video. I even got Engine 5 responding in-person, along with some pictures of the fire boats:    • SEATTLE: Engine 5 responding, + bonus...
