ERCP(Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography) is a procedure where the endoscope goes into the food pipe, stomach and the duodenum. We do ERCP for the blockage of the ducts, if there is blockage of tubes. Usually blockage happens because of the stones form the bile tubes and the stones blocks the liver tube, then we get jaundice and abdominal pain and to remove the stone, we do ERCP. Number two, there will be a block, sometimes tumors in the gall bladder or pancreas or bile duct. If there is a pancreatic juice, we do a stent, these are the common reasons why we do ERCP. It is done under anesthesia and it is safe.
