Long before Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Joshua and the Israelites were preparing for "such sweet sorrow." Well advanced in years, Joshua knew his leadership was quickly coming to a close. Soon he and the Israelites would be 'parted.' Not wanting the impending leadership vacuum to end in bitter sorrow, Joshua reminds, exhorts and warns the Israelites. Then and now, God's people need timely reminders, encouragement and warnings. May the Holy Spirit grant us ears to hear!
