This channel illustrates how to build useful models using Microsoft Excel and the VBA coding language within Excel. Each series will build a model for a different industry/market and will perform a unique analysis. Analysis is done from an actuarial perspective, meaning a number of assumptions will be used to build and optimize a model in an attempt to profit in a given market. Sensitivity graphs will provide a picture of: (a) if value exists in our methodology and (b) what inputs are likely to provide value for us going forward.

This series builds an NFL sports betting model based upon a methodology: assume the number of scoring chances a team creates is our most predictive indicator of future scores, then estimate the expected number of points scored per chance. The model also uses a Credibility assumption for a particular team's performance which assumes regression towards the mean to the degree the user inputs.
