As we roll into 2022, if you're looking to change credit cards or just add a new one I want to make the decision easier by breaking down the best cash back credit cards you can get. I'll divide them into two categories: flat rate cash back and tiered categories cash back and give you my top three options for each. Many of these cards have introductory bonuses, but I won't include those bonuses when I rack and stack the cards.
Let's start off with the flat rate cash back all of which have no annual fee:
1) Wells Fargo Active Cash Card
2% cash back on all purchases w/ no limits
Get up to $600 in protection on your cell phone w/ a $25 deductible
2) Citi Double Cash Card
2% cash back w/ no limits. You earn 1% when you buy something and the other 1% when you pay off the card
3) Chase Freedom Unlimited (technically tiered, but the base cash back is 1.5%)
1.5% back w/ no limits
5% back on grocery store purchases up to $12,000 in the first year but doesn't include Target or Walmart
3% back on dining / takeout / delivery
3% back on drugstore purchases (Walgreens / CVS / RiteAid)
5% back on travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards
Now rolling into the tiered cash back cards:
1) Blue Cash Preferred Card from AMEX
1% back on all purchases
6% back on US supermarkets up to $6,000/year (does not include superstores, convenience stores, warehouse clubs, and meal-kit delivery services are not considered supermarkets)
3% back on gas stations and transit (taxis / rideshare / parking / tolls / trains / buses)
No annual fee the first year, but $95 thereafter
2) Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card
1% back on all purchases
3% unlimited back on dining / entertainment / popular streaming services / grocery stores (excluding Walmart and Target)
8% back on tickets at Vivid Seats through January 2023
No foreign transaction fee
No annual fee
3) Citi Custom Cash Card
1% back on all purchases
5% back on purchases in your top eligible spending category each month up to $500 spent, 1% thereafter. The category is chosen automatically based on your purchases. Although this means you're limited to a maximum bonus cash back of $25/month it can add up to $300/year
