On a very wet Friday a group of Canal and River Trust volunteers (members of Bath Towpath Taskforce) met at Hanham lock to take their workboats Sulis and Community Spirit down river to Bristol for their first 'official' visit to the annual harbour festival. The volunteer group have managed the larger vessel, Sulis, for 5 years to date, and had just finished repainting it a couple of days before, which is why it is missing decals and logos. The smaller vessel, Community Spirit, funded by local donations and name chosen by the donors, has been managed by the group for approx. 4 years.

Hanham Lock marks the end point of the Kennet and Avon navigation controlled by CRT, and the beginning of navigation under the auspices of Bristol Harbour Authority, for the stretch running to Bristol on the River Avon.
