In Shaped by Dog Episode 60, I asked if you would like me to share some tips on training your dog with a target stick. The answer was a resounding “yes”, so here’s Part One.

We’re covering more than a target stick, as there are so many ways dogs can target and so many applications for targeting. It’s a skill I consider vital for all dogs.

Part One covers the why and where of targeting, including how useful it is for life skills and cooperative care for husbandry. There are at least 10 areas you could train your dog to target, and I use at least 5 or 6 regularly.

Targeting engages your dog’s brain and gives you many long-term benefits.
