South African artist, known as Mr Music, born in Alexandra township, Johannesburg, on 13 October 1947. He started singing at the age of 10, and went on to become the lead singer of the Pretoria group, The Miracles, in 1965. In 1969 he became the lead singer of the Uitenhage group, the Invaders, and recorded two albums with them before moving on to the Soweto group, The Beaters (later to become Harari), in 1971. He went solo shortly afterwards.

In 1973 he had his first South African Top 20 hit with “Come Back Liza” (this song), which reached #12 and charted for 7 weeks. He charted with another 6 songs between 1974 and 1976. In 1974 he became the first black artist to win a prestigious SARIE award, the local equivalent of the US Grammy. In 1980 he joined Harari as lead singer, and stayed with the group for 3 years before retiring from show business to spend time with his family (he married Val Triegaardt in April 1974, and they have 2 sons). In 1983 he became active in the church and in 1993 decided to join the ministry on a full-time basis. He is still a gospel musician and preacher today, and is known for singing R&B and gospel worship songs.
