2021 Railway Review Episode 4
Colas Rail Freight Locomotives
Includes Class 37s, Class 67s & Class 70s
My personal highlights of Colas operated Locomotives seen in 2021

Workings in order of appearance;
A surprise visitor to the Local Area on the morning of the 4th March was 37219 taking out track recording duties, the EE Machine is seen passing back through Altrincham working 0C01 Sandbach to Crewe Basford Hall having gone up to Northwich to turn back.

With a shortage of available locomotives to work Network Rail Test Trains, for a couple of weeks in March, Colas hired in Boden Rail Transrail liveried 37240 to operate some of these services, it is seen passing through Altrincham on the 19th March with 97304 bringing up the rear working 1Q45 Crewe CS to Derby RTC. Another Test Train observed in March was 37099 TnT 37175 which are seen passing through Hazel Grove on the 28th March heading back to Derby RTC from Longsight TMD.

Onto the always enjoyable, Easter Bank Holiday Diverts where we see 70817 passing through Charles Street Car Park, Manchester towards Oxford Road Station on the 4th April with empty log carriers from Chirk to Carlisle. Another view of the empty logs came from Crewe where we see 70815 hurtling North on the 25th April.

Whilst returning from a day spent at Nuneaton Station on the 24th June, I had noticed a Test Train was not long due after my train arrived and here we have 37421 passing through Manchester Piccadilly with the 3Q52 Longsight TMD to Crewe CS.

The Colas Skips 67023 TnT 67027 come next in this video, seen leaving Manchester Piccadilly working 1Q18 York to Derby RTC filling in for Power Cars on the New Measurement Train (NMT). It proved to be the final chance I got to get a video of these 2 before a sale of them to GBRf was announced later in the year.

On Long Term Loan from HNRC (Harry Needle) 37610 provides the 2nd clip recorded from Charles Street Car Park, Manchester in this video working a Network Rail Test Train the 1Z74 towards Carlisle and onto Scotland with 37116 tagged to the rear, the normal path via Warrington and Earlestown was cancelled the day before so was a nice catch for them to be sent via Manchester.

Whilst down in London for a couple of days, I managed to catch 70815 on the 29th August as it gets its train underway in fine style at Clapham Junction with an engineers including Network Rail S&C Points Carriers in the consist.

Onto the penultimate clip and another recorded whilst down in London on the 30th August, the final one of 37s in this video. Here we see 37057 TnT 37219 blast through Feltham working from Derby RTC to Eastleigh. It sure will be a shame that most of these sort of Test Trains will now be Class 43 HST Power Car Operated in 2022.

The final clip in this video shows 70810 storming through Lancaster with the Logs heading southbound on the 13th November with the Logs bound for Chirk.
