The incident of Karbala, in the view of Ahle Sunnat, is an extremely sorrowful and tragic event. Scholars and the general public of Ahle Sunnat unanimously condemn this event. The martyrdom of the Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Hussain (RA), and his family is remembered as a great sacrifice.

The Status of Imam Hussain (RA)
Ahle Sunnat regards Imam Hussain (RA) as one of the leaders of the people of Jannah. He was the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), and his love and respect are deeply felt by all Muslims. His martyrdom at Karbala is seen as a monumental sacrifice for the sake of Islam, evoking grief and respect in the heart of every believer.

Yazid's Role
The majority of Ahle Sunnat condemn the actions of Yazid bin Muawiyah. Their position is that although there are varying opinions regarding his caliphate, he was a tyrannical ruler due to his order for the killing of Imam Hussain (RA) or his silence on the matter. Many scholars have cursed Yazid or declared him a transgressor (fasiq).
Azimah (Determination) and Rukhsah (Leniency)

Among Ahle Sunnat scholars, there is a discussion about whether Imam Hussain's (RA) uprising against Yazid was an act of "Azimah" (choosing the difficult path for the sake of religion) or if the other companions' decision to pledge allegiance to Yazid to avoid conflict was "Rukhsah" (choosing the easier, safer path). Most Ahle Sunnat believe that Imam Hussain (RA) chose the path of truth, and his action serves as an example of great bravery.

Mourning and Lamentation
According to Ahle Sunnat, it is permissible to mourn the tragedy of Karbala, but the method of mourning should be in accordance with Islamic teachings. The grief should be felt in the heart, and one can verbally express the virtues of Imam Hussain (RA) and condemn his killers. However, public lamentation, self-flagellation, and beating of chests are not in line with the beliefs of Ahle Sunnat and are considered Bid'ah (innovation in religion). Instead, patience, prayers, and learning from the life of Imam Hussain (RA) are encouraged.
In summary, for Ahle Sunnat, the incident of Karbala is not just a historical event but also a profound lesson in sacrifice for the sake of faith and standing firm on the truth. This event teaches Muslims the values of unity and justice.
