A court has delivered its verdict in the 2016 Uttar Pradesh highway rape and robbery case, where a mother and daughter were gang-raped in a field after their family's vehicle was waylaid. The speaker notes that during the assault, the 'male members kept crying and pleading'. Initially investigated by the local police, the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI arrested six individuals and filed a charge sheet. A special CBI POCSO court has now sentenced the five surviving accused to life imprisonment, following the death of one accused during the trial. A fine of ₹1,81,000 has also been imposed on the convicts.
