Slot Teylingen is a Dutch castle in the hamlet of Teijlingen, part of the Voorhout core of the South Holland municipality of Teylingen. It was probably the ancestral seat of the noble Van Teylingen family, from which the Brederode house descended directly. The most famous resident was the Dutch countess Jacoba van Beieren, who withdrew to the castle after the Hook and Cod quarrels. Only a ruin of the castle is now left. That is why the castle is also called 'Ruins of Teylingen'. It is well consolidated, consists of a ring wall and a keep of which the ring wall forms part and is partly surrounded by water. The castle is a round moated castle. The ring wall dates from the early 13th century and the residential building from shortly after. The castle was heavily damaged in the Eighty Years' War around 1570 and has since been partially restored. It also had an outer bailey. Around 1675 the keep burned out, after which decay set in and parts were gradually demolished. The estate (and also the ruin) belonged to the possessions of the province of Holland, which were nationalized in 1795. Shortly afterwards the complex was sold, under the condition that the ruins could not be demolished. This makes the ruin an early example of Dutch monument care. From time to time there is an authentic viking market at the castle
