Buy it at Best Buy http://lon.tv/chromeaudio (affiliate link) - The Chromecast Audio is an excellent audio streamer, but it's not for video watchers or gamers.

Like its video cousin (review here: http://lon.tv/8q5se ), the Chromecast Audio very easily transfers audio from a mobile device or PC to external speakers. It performs that task remarkably well and even supports devices that have a TOSLink optical audio input.

But those looking to extend game or video audio to a larger speaker will be disappointed due to the lag between the sending device and the Chromecast. So I recommend this for listening only.

It works great with the few apps that directly support it. Android users will gain some additional functionality thanks to a mirroring feature that is not available on iOS. Audio mirroring casts all of the phone or tablet's audio to speakers. A similar feature is available on through the Google Cast extension on Google Chrome.

App streaming is the most interesting feature to me. That's because the Chromecast audio actually fetches the audio itself vs. relying on the phone to transmit it. That results in fewer drop-outs and skips.

Audio quality is excellent and on par with the audio output on my high-end phones and tablets.
