With hardware store quick-links prevalent in canyons and such a variety of opinions about them I set up a test to shed some light on their strengths and weaknesses. I took five 5/16" and 1/4" links, broke them, and used the results to calculate the 3-sigma rating. If nothing else, hopefully it will shed some light on our rigging in canyon when less than rated gear is available.
