Children's furniture is fun to make and the rewards are amazing when you can watch the face of the recipients as they see their miniature furniture for first time. In this video, long time friend and woodworker Graham Turnbull shows us how to make a child's picnic table.

Almost every woodworker I know spends huge amounts of their time making things for other people. I guess that is one of the measures of doing something you love to do. In this video my long time friend Graham Turnbull builds a child's picnic table which is really just a miniature sized full size picnic table. For this build, Graham used red cedar and all the wood was what is know as "dimensional boards", that is boards that are pre-sized in terms of width and depth. Graham only needed to cut the boards to length, then round over all the boards to reduce the chances of getting slivers and assemble. All I did was hold a few boards for Graham and let him get busy making the picnic table. I liked all the steps Graham went through and how he explained to all of us what he was doing. I loved the idea of using pocket holes to not only hide as much of the joinery as possible, but also to keep it away from the weather and reduce the chances of it rusting.
Thanks Graham for doing this, I had fun standing around watching someone else do all the work.
