🔻 Forgot to mention in the video:

Abhirami did well within the scope given. (If there are wives that can be convinced this easily, all husbands would be happy 😜)

A.R. Rahman elevated some scenes with his BGM and songs — no doubt. But I honestly expected more. The BGM felt a bit random, non-sync, and overly experimental at times. It seemed like he prepared theme bits and just sprinkled them around. Even the songs were mostly background use, except for the “Jingucha” track.

Joji George’s character was almost perfect. Good acting as always, but deserved deeper writing.

Ali Fazal and other North Indian actors fit the template villain/support roles.

Sanjana (Kamal’s daughter) and her subplot felt unnecessary — could’ve been low-key or removed.

Nice to see familiar faces like Tanikella Bharani, Vadivukarasi, Chinni Jayanth, Vaiyapuri, and Chetan. They appear briefly but don’t really influence the story much.

A. Sreekar Prasad seems to have tried hard to keep a flow in the edit but couldn’t fully patch the disjointed storytelling.

VFX was decent. De-aging was okay. But the Kathmandu portions clearly looked artificial.

On the technical side – art direction, costume, makeup, camera, production crew – everyone seems to have given their best for the names of Kamal & Maniratnam.

🔻 Overall Thoughts:

Everything boils down to the strength of the story. Yes, there were Maniratnam's signature shots and Kamal’s creative touches – like in Vishwaroopam or even Dasavatharam, where despite multiple characters and layers, the storytelling kept us engaged.

I get that Thug Life has moral messages, philosophical layers, and an unconventional narrative with untold chapters.

But at the end of the day, a movie has to engage and excite us to connect with all that depth.

🔻 Main Issue: Wrong Expectations

The teasers and promotions set up completely different expectations. They teased the audience's imagination just for hype — and that’s what led to disappointment.

Watching FDFS with hardcore fans, only to see everyone come out tired, drained, and silent, was real.

If they had set the tone early — something like a Balu Mahendra / K. Balachander style emotional drama with relationship tangles — some might have skipped it, and others would have watched with the right mindset.

🔻 Too Many Tracks, Too Little Depth

The film tries to do too much in 2 hours: multiple tracks, genres, and themes.

But ends up being shallow in each, without being unique or deep in any.

I like both Kamal and Maniratnam. It’s sad this didn’t work for me. But I get that it’s subjective.
