Do you ever feel like you’re watching your life happen instead of actually living it? You wake up, reach for your phone, and before you’ve even brushed your teeth, your brain is flooded with the lives of fifty different people you don’t even know.
You feel tired, but you haven't actually done anything. You feel "busy," but you haven't made a single inch of progress on your goals. That’s because you aren't tired—you're overstimulated. Your brain is being hijacked by a loop of cheap rewards that leave you feeling empty and exhausted.
Today, we stop the cycle. Welcome to the RE Ascend Dopamine Reset. In the next ten minutes, I’m going to show you exactly how to take your brain back, reset your focus, and start chasing the things that actually matter.
Before we fix the problem, you need to understand what’s happening inside your head. Most people think dopamine is about pleasure. It’s not. Dopamine is about anticipation. It’s the chemical of "more."
Your phone is essentially a slot machine in your pocket. Every scroll, every like, every red notification bubble is a tiny hit of dopamine. The problem is that when you overstimulate these receptors, your baseline shifts. Normal life starts to feel incredibly boring.
Reading a book feels like a chore. Working on your business feels impossible. Even eating a healthy meal feels dull. You aren't lazy; you’ve just fried your reward system. To "Ascend," we have to lower that baseline. We have to make the "hard things" feel rewarding again.
So, how do we fix it? We follow a three-step protocol designed to starve the distractions and feed your focus.
Step One: The Digital Fast. For the next twenty-four hours, I want you to go on a total screen fast. No YouTube, no Instagram, no music, and no podcasts. I know, it sounds extreme. But you need to let your brain get bored. Boredom is the space where creativity and ambition are born. When you remove the noise, you finally start to hear your own thoughts again.
Step Two: Friction Mapping. Willpower is a finite resource. If your phone is next to you, you will eventually pick it up. You need to create friction. Move your social media apps to the very last page of your phone, or better yet, delete them for a week. Put your phone in a different room while you work. If it’s harder to reach, your brain is less likely to crave it as a default.
Step Three: High-Value Hits. We aren't trying to eliminate dopamine; we’re trying to change the source. Replace "cheap" dopamine—like scrolling—with "expensive" dopamine. The hit you get from finishing a workout, completing a difficult task at work, or having a deep conversation. These rewards take effort, they last longer, and they don't leave you feeling empty afterward.
I’m going to be honest with you: the first forty-eight hours will be difficult. You’re going to feel an actual "itch" to check your pockets. You’ll feel disconnected, restless, and maybe even a little anxious.
Don't run from that feeling. That feeling is your brain healing. It’s the process of your receptors down-regulating and returning to a healthy level. This is where the discipline we talk about in our Shorts becomes real life. This is the "friction" I keep talking about.
If you can push through the boredom, something amazing happens on the other side. You’ll find that your focus returns. You’ll find that you actually want to work on your goals. The fog finally lifts.
You have a choice today. You can keep scrolling and let an algorithm dictate your mood, your energy, and your future. Or, you can take the wheel.
You weren't born to be a consumer. You were born to be a creator—to build, to lead, and to ascend. If you’re ready to reclaim your focus and join this reset, I want you to comment the word "RESET" below. It’s a small way to commit to yourself and this community.
Subscribe to RE Ascend to stay on this path. We’re climbing every day, and we aren't stopping until we reach the top. I’ll see you in the next one.
