On 04 July 1999, Rifleman Sanjay Kumar was one of the leading scouts of a column tasked to capture Flat Top at Point 4875. He displayed great courage as he charged at the enemy and in the ensuing physical combat, he killed three intruders. During the attack, he was seriously injured but refused to be evacuated as he charged at the second enemy sangar. He motivated his team to continue to charge and finally wrested Flat Top from the enemy. For displaying conspicuous gallantry of extraordinary level, he was awarded #ParamVirChakra
