We are happily in a relationship, so usually when there are problems, it's coming from the outside. In the beginning of our relationship, family have expressed concerns on common beliefs with Punjabi culture, which presented a struggle throughout the relationship, despite the beliefs not being a reality in our case. In due time however, these "concerns" were addressed and both families are completely supportive!

Being in an interracial relationship, sometimes there are language barriers which present struggle or difficulty. In our case, communicating with Amir's parents presented some difficulties since they did not speak English. This is something that is ongoing, however Samantha has really taken efforts to learn the language, communicate in small ways, and create comfort with the language barrier.

This isn't a common problem among interracial relationships, considering the fact that it is clear that two people in interracial relationships are two different races. In our case though, sometime Samantha is confused as Punjabi, or people have made assumptions that Samantha is Indian because she is seen with Amir. It can be a struggle!

Religion conversion? Arranged Marriage? Many of these assumptions were imposed on us while we were dating which presented struggles when communicating about our relationship with others.

From abiding to Asian cultural standards, to indulging in different cultural cuisines - cultural differences present times where you must adapt and being accustomed to your partner's culture.
