Leaf folder or patta lapaet sundi is a major pest in rice field. Its attack in rice crop is observed in August and September when weather is hot and humid. Excessive or late use of Nitrogenous fertilizers such as urea
favours its infestation in rice fields.
Attack symptoms: Rice leaves look folded and white scratch are seen on affected leaves. This insect pest makes injury on rice leaves which affect or decreases rate of photosynthesis and increases the chance of fungal diseases and bacterial diseases such as leaf blight etc.
Chemical Control: First of all, perform pest scouting activity in rice field. if the month is August and you
find 2 leaves attacked or affected per plant then it is
threshold level or damaging level for this leaf folder
insect pest and chemical spray application is required
at this stage.
