$25, ten minutes and two tools! VW rear hatch latch replacement! SAVE $$$

Over the weekend my wife went to Santa Fe for a friend's wedding, and she called me stating that the rear hatch on her 2011 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen wouldn't latch, and it was making a strange whirring noise. She left it for the night and went to the auto parts store the next day and found some red duct tape and taped the hatch shut.

When I got back from South Carolina, first things first...let's all marvel at the amazing tape job and color match! But that doesn't seem like a very long-term solution.

A little diagnostics were done and it was determined that the electric mechanism was the fault, so I went on Amazon and ordered this:

It arrived the next day and fixed the latch perfectly. FYI, you will need an 8mm triple square, not the 7mm as mentioned in the video. Sorry for the confusion.

So if you're having the same problem, the solution is only $25 and ten minutes of your time.
