Gandalf, Galadriel, Elrond, and Saruman convene during a meeting of the White Council in Rivendell. This gathering of some of Middle-earth’s most powerful figures is steeped in tension and foreboding, as they discuss the growing darkness threatening their world.
The scene unfolds with Elrond welcoming the group into Rivendell’s serene and luminous surroundings, where the splendor of the elven city contrasts with the weight of their discussion. Galadriel, the Lady of Lothlórien, exudes wisdom and grace, her presence commanding respect. Saruman, the White Wizard and leader of the Istari, displays his characteristic arrogance, dismissing Gandalf’s concerns with an air of superiority.

Gandalf brings troubling evidence to the council: a dark blade, identified as a Morgul blade, retrieved from the tombs of the Nazgûl. He expresses his fear that the ancient enemy, Sauron, may be returning. Saruman, however, downplays these fears, insisting that Sauron’s power has long been vanquished. This disagreement highlights the growing discord between the members of the council, foreshadowing Saruman’s eventual betrayal.

Galadriel and Gandalf share a moment of mutual understanding, as she subtly reassures him with her quiet support. Her telepathic conversation with Gandalf reveals her deep trust in him, even when Saruman doubts his judgment. This intimate exchange underscores the alliance between the two, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the council’s tense deliberations.
