After the intro, the first destination in Super Mario Galaxy is the Good Egg Galaxy and you can see how to get the 3 Grand Stars in the walkthrough guide. This covers all of the main missions you get when you first arrive at the Observatory. There are a couple of bosses to fight along the way with the first coming in star 1 of the Good Egg Galaxy and the 2nd taking place in the third to close out the walkthrough.

The galaxy-travelling adventure sees Mario taking on the might of Bowser on planets in space. His job is to track down green stars to unlock the way with the help of Rosalina and Luma. You'll also need to find a load of secret stars and purple coins to get the job done 100%.
