New York mayor charged with taking ‘bribes from foreign sources'

Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, has been indicted on federal charges for allegedly accepting bribes and illegal campaign contributions from foreign sources.

A five-count indictment against Adams, a Democrat and former police captain who pledged to crack down on crime, was unsealed on Thursday morning following a three-year investigation.

The charges include: one of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, federal programme bribery, and to receive campaign contributions by foreign nationals; one count of wire fraud; two of solicitation of a contribution by a foreign national, and one of bribery.
