Killer Whales Consume Elephant Seal in Monterey Bay

I’ve seen killer whales partake in an array of different delicacies throughout the years. From stingrays and attempts on blue whales in Mexico to salmon and common dolphins in Alaska and California, these apex predators have crowned themselves in every ocean they find themselves in. Today, however, we watched them eat a prey item that was new to me.

Elephant seals 🐘🦭 are high in fat content and provide a hearty meal for a family of killer whales. Thanks to the sharp eyes of my good friend and brother Jason Berring Jr., we found 8 killer whales sharing an enormous meal off Point Lobos.
