In mathematics, a set is a well-defined collection of distinct objects, considered as an abstract entity in its own right. These objects, which can be anything from numbers and letters to other mathematical entities, are called the elements or members of the set. Sets are a fundamental concept in mathematics and are used to study and analyze relationships between objects.

Sets are typically represented by listing their elements within curly braces {}. For example, a set of even numbers could be written as {2, 4, 6, 8, ...}. If an element is a member of a set, it is said to belong to that set, denoted by the symbol ∈. If an element is not part of a set, it is said to not belong to that set, denoted by the symbol ∉.

Sets can be finite or infinite, depending on whether the collection of elements is limited or continues indefinitely. For instance, the set of natural numbers {1, 2, 3, 4, ...} is infinite, while the set of prime numbers {2, 3, 5, 7, 11, ...} is also infinite but has a specific property.

Set can be represented in different ways:
1. Description method
2. Roster or tabular notation
3. Set-builder notation
