Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick testified in support of legislation (A5472) to fix a law signed by Gov. Phil Murphy last month prohibiting law enforcement from notifying parents if a minor is found in possession of or using marijuana and alcohol.

“In my history in politics this was the dumbest law I’ve ever seen by far,” Bramnick said in an interview after the hearing. “Under what circumstance would you want an underage person — let’s say 14 — drinking beer and smoking marijuana, why should the parents not be informed?”

The vote in the Assembly Community Development and Affairs Committee Wednesday was bipartisan and unanimous.
