Peugeot 408 hybrid 2024 review: GT PHEV | Is the odd combination of an SUV, coupe and sedan good?

The 2024 Peugeot 408 is out to redefine what a mid-size car can be. Is it an SUV? A coupe? A sedan? Or perhaps all three? Who's to say, but this new French supermodel is certainly out to make an impression – which is exactly what it should be doing as the enduring Lion brand continues to struggle to find new buyers in Australia.

Closely related to the similarly boundary-pushing Citroen C5 X, the first-generation 408 is exclusively available in a highly specified GT grade with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, which combines a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for combined power and torque outputs of 165kW and 360Nm.
