I developed this course as an independent study while attending Fairhaven College. The idea was to practice self organization in a creative setting, as well as private and collective art making. I created a curriculum which first involved reading and discussing theories written on non-hierarchical forms of organization, populist, political movements, an artist collectives. After a theoretical framework had been established, the students and I begin to negotiate how best to organize ourselves and what goals we would like to accomplish. We decided that we wanted to learn a skill collectively, focus on art as play, and represent the theme of “Networks” individually in our own ways as well as in a collective piece. We learn screen printing together, negotiated what our priorities in the class were and developed a collective manifesto and exhibit. This short film is a documentation of our final show and all the wonderful work that each student put into the making of that creative space as well as their own work .
