Tracking Drums with Focusrite ISA 430 MKII Channel Strips (AKA Producer Pack)

As part of the Headliner series on recording drums, producer and engineer Julian Kindred walks us through his front-end processing for tracking drums.

Julian wanted to add cleaner, more neutral-sounding channel strips to his studio that contrast his more 'coloured' sounding options. The latest incarnation of Focusrite's ISA 430 (Producer Pack) fits the bill perfectly.

He explains how the preamp of the Focusrite units are very transparent, which is paired with an equally transparent EQ. These comprehensive pro channel strips are closely based on the original ISA 110 mic pre and subsequent ISA 130 dynamics section, which were originally design by Rupert Neve for George Martin's Neve console.
