Screen Printing Rainbow Effect

Our latest video demonstrates a non-standard printing technique. Instead of the regular 3/color method of screen printing that requires 1 screen for each color in the design, we’re going to demo how to produce a Rainbow Effect by printing a 3 color design with just one screen.

With each shirt, as you’ll see, a distinctive fusion of colors will be created. Though there will be slight color variations within the red, white and blue inks, these won’t deter your customers; rather, the vibrant allure of the colors in the design will only add to their appeal.

Before you print, follow these steps:

Make sure that you have off-contact on the press meaning that the screen is not flat against the substrate/garment you’ll be pressing. This will ensure that when you push/pull the ink over the design, it will be forced through the mesh onto the garment. The result will be a crisp design.

To launch a rainbow print, lay down the blue, red and white plastisol ink colors on top of the screen, so that they are just overlapping a bit.

Now, flood the screen with ink by raising the screen and drawing the ink across the screen. See how the ink is blended? And, now PRINT.

Lift the screen and flood screen again, so you’ll be ready to print the next shirt.

Deep blue, into a light gray into red…see how the colors have blended? And, the colors in the design will become even more intense as you continue printing.

After printing design, place all shirts onto conveyor dryer that is heated to 350 degrees F for 60 seconds. This will fully cure the shirt.

And, that’s how you print a 3-Color design with just 1 Screen.
