In a recent interview, rapper Lil Rob spoke with Justin Hunte about his upbringing in a small Mexican neighborhood in San Diego called La Colonia at Eden Gardens. He discussed his childhood growing up in a tight-knit community of family and friends, where his childhood home was a house his grandmother constructed from leftover wood from the racetrack where his grandfather worked. Growing up, Lil Rob was exposed to different musical genres through his older siblings. From breakdancing to party DJing, the influence of his family played a pivotal role towards his music career. Lil Rob reminisced about how he handed out his first vinyl as a teenager in Tijuana, beginning his journey in hip-hop that he still carries forward today. His upbringing, coupled with the influence of his family and the vibrant culture of his hometown, shaped the artist Lil Rob is today.
