Since the label relaunched in 1999 we have wanted to get RAN on Boss Tuneage, and now over 30 years later its finally happening!

For those who aren't aware, RAN hailed from Sunderland and were formed in 1991 when original LEATHERFACE bass player Stu Raymond left the band after recording their "Cherry Knowle" debut album. He teamed up with singer/guitarist Tim Mirsadeghi, guitarist Graeme Philliskirk and drummer Ian Syborn. The band released a demo called "Order Through Chaos" and followed that up with a second demo called "Total Chaos" (Stu would leave the band midway through those sessions and be replaced by John Livingstone on bass) - both demos were recorded by Frankie Stubbs at The Bunker in Sunderland. Dickie Hammond would also regularly do the bands live sound for them.

Those two demos plus a third demo recorded in Autumn 1993 are nowbeing released by Boss Tuneage as "Out Of Chaos" , a 10 track compilation LP/CD covering the band as a 4 piece.
Four of those tracks were later released by Silver Fox in the US as the "Little Tasmania" 7"EP, which was also intended to be released in Europe by Boss Tuneage back in 1993. Plans for that were shelved when Graeme left the band in late 1993 and Tim, John and Ian carried on as a 3 piece, and recorded the "Beautiful Songs For Ugly Children" album which is also now finally being released , just delayed slightly by 31 years!!.

Graeme would re-appear in RUGRAT, who changed their name to BULLTACO alongside Ian Armstrong (Sofahead, Dan, Meantime Records) and Lainey (HDQ, Leatherface). Graeme was also the bass player in LEATHERFACE's final incarnation and currently appears in ROACH SQUAD and runs Little Rocket Records.

Ian would also drum with LEATHERFACE on their third Peel Session, and was also drumming for RED ALERT and STOKOE when he died in tragic circumstances back in 2002, and both RAN releases are dedicated to his memory.

Both "OUT OF CHAOS" and "BEAUTIFUL SONGS FOR UGLY CHILDREN" will be officially released on January 9th 2026 but can be pre-ordered from the Boss Tuneage webstore with these due to be sent out in December in advance of the official shop release date.
