This song was first performed by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel at an open mic in Greenwich Village New York in 1963. They were both still university students in New York at the time. In 1964 it was released on the first Simon & Garfunkel album “Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.” as “The Sounds of Silence”. That album was not a huge success, but in 1966 the song was released again on the Simon & Garfunkel album “Sounds of Silence” and released as a single “The Sound of Silence”. This version included a fuller band and became the giant success we all know.
