Abstract:
Persistent atrial fibrillation (AFib) presents a significant clinical challenge due to complex electrophysiological and structural changes in the heart. This dissertation investigates critical aspects of persistent AFib using a preclinical model, advanced intracardiac mapping techniques, and cutting-edge machine learning to develop improved therapeutic strategies. The research delves into the stability of AFib "drivers" (the localized sources that can sustain the arrhythmia), explores methods to enhance their automated detection from electrical signals (electrograms), and develops novel approaches to identify heart tissue scarring (fibrosis) in real-time during procedures.
