First, let's understand the concept of Conditional Formatting based on another cell. Imagine you have a dataset, and you want to highlight cells in one column based on the values in another column. For instance, you may want to highlight sales figures in column A that exceed a target value in column B. Conditional Formatting allows us to do just that, making it easier to spot trends and outliers.

Now, let's see how it's done. I have this sales data here, and I want to highlight sales figures in column A that are greater than the target in column B. First, I'll select the range of cells I want to apply formatting to. I.e. from Cell A2:B10

Next, go to the "Home" tab, find the "Conditional Formatting" button, and select "New Rule" from the dropdown menu.

The "New Formatting Rule" dialog box appears. Here, we'll choose "Use a formula to determine which cells to format."

In the formula bar, we'll enter our formula. For this example, I'll use the since I want to highlight sales figures in column A that are greater than the target in column B.

Now, let's choose the formatting style we want for the highlighted cells. I'll pick a bold yellow font to make it stand out.

Click "OK" to apply the rule.

And there you have it! The cells in column A that exceed the target in column B are now highlighted in Yellow. This makes it easy to see which sales figures are performing well and which ones need improvement.

What if you want to edit or manage your conditional formatting rules? No worries! Simply select the range with the applied rule I.E cell A2:B10 and head back to the "Conditional Formatting" button.

From the dropdown menu, choose "Manage Rules."
The "Manage Rules" dialog box displays all the rules applied to the selected range. You can edit, delete, or reorder them as needed.
