Thomas Browne lived in a transformative period in history when the world was shifting from the age of faith to the new age of enlightenment and reason. Thomas Browne's Religio Medici is an epic protestant christian apology defending the faith of his religion. Thomas Browne is witty and has a writing style that is unique and playful. For this reason, Charles Elliott seems to have thought of adding Thomas Browne to the Harvard Classics series and allowing us to experience a writer we may not have sought out on our own.
