Antidepressants are common medications, yet their potential negative effects tend not to be adequately discussed with patients and even doctors are not always as informed as they should be.
One of the under-discussed effects is withdrawal, which encompasses an array of uncomfortable and distressing symptoms that can manifest when someone stops taking an antidepressant, such as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI), or tricyclic antidepressant (TCA).
