A number of Presidential candidates for the April elections observed International Anti-Corruption Day on Monday in Kabul by attending a gathering to discuss corruption in Afghanistan.
The gathering was organized by Parliament's Anti-Corruption Caucus and (PACC) and the Afghan Coalition Against Corruption (AFCAC), who together released a resolution stressing the importance of prosecuting corrupt individuals, approving better laws agains corruption and more stringent enforcement of them.
Afghanistan has seen a surge of corruption since the fall of the Taliban and influx of foreign aid funding. This year, Transparency International ranked Afghanistan as the third most corrupt nation in the world, falling just behind North Korea and Somalia.
The candidates on Monday expressed the feeling that Afghanistan's law enforcement was ineffective in combating corruption, saying there is no any administration in Afghanistan without corruption. The candidates expressed major frustration about high-ranking government officials being able to act with impunity.
