Guru Nanak Dev ji spent 14 years in Sultanpur Lodhi. There he used to handle the food supply department of the Lodi Dynasty ruler, Nawab Daulat Khan. People usually used to hear from Guru Nanak ji saying
“There is neither a Hindu nor a Muslim” stating that all are equal and no one is above or below anyone.

One day, Nawab Daulat Khan and his associate Kazi responded to Guru Nanak ji’s words. They asked him,
that if he truly believes that there is no difference between a Hindu and a Muslim, he should perform a
session of Muslim prayer of reading Namaz. Guru Nanak ji agreed but under one condition, that the Nawab and Kazi should also join him in the session of Namaz. Nawab Daulat Khan agreed the condition. Guru Nanak ji, Nawab Daulat Khan and kazi reached
the mosque where the Namaz was to be commenced. The session of Namaz gets started, Nawab and Kazi started reading the Namaz but Guru Nanak ji on other hand, stood aside quietly.

The session of Namaz ended and the Nawab asked Guru Nanak ji that why he went away from his own words despite his condition was fulfilled. Guru Nanak ji responded to Nawab “My condition was not completely fulfilled, despite reading the Namaz you were actually thinking about your trade of horses in
Kabul whereas KAZI Sahab was actually thinking about a newborn foal and his care”.
“A true Namaz is done in your mind, without truly putting all your mind in Namaz.. is an act of cheat to both yourself and Allah”. Nawab Daulat Khan and his associate felt ashamed but also respected the words of Guru Nanak ji.
