The International Court of Justice on Monday began hearings into Israel's obligations towards the presence and activities of the UN, other international organisations and third states in occupied Palestine.

Middle East Eye spoke to Ammar Hijazi, the Palestinian representative to international organisations in The Hague and to the Netherlands, who strongly criticised Israel's actions as an illegal occupying power, asserting that Israel's violations of international law must have consequences.

He emphasised that Israel's defiance of international law, including humanitarian and human rights law, as well as its disregard for United Nations resolutions and court orders, undermines the entire international system and highlighted the need for third states to hold Israel accountable for these violations, especially as Israel is unlikely to comply with court rulings.
