Proposed $9M settlement after lawsuit claims neglect of disabled son in WA state care

The parents of a severely disabled young man claim their son was neglected and abused while Washington state taxpayers were spending millions of dollars on his care.

Michael and Suzanne Cross filed a lawsuit against the Washington Department of Social and Health Services and Alpha Supported Living Services, which both agreed to a $9 million settlement late this week.

Jonathan Cross, who has autism, is profoundly vulnerable and nonverbal, was placed in state care at age 12. At the time, his parents said they could no longer meet his high medical and psychiatric needs on their own.
