From his base in the super-sunny Canary Islands, Ilya Santana has been offering up intergalactic, synth-heavy electronic disco gems for the best part of two decades. Since 2017, when he established the Astrolead Recordings label, his productivity has rocketed - with no signs of his high-quality threshold dipping. On his latest missive for the imprint, Santata serves up two killer, mind-twisting and body moving re-edits. First up is the decidedly hallucinatory 'Star Dancer', where spacey electronics and trippy effects combine cannily with a chunky dub disco groove and orchestral samples from a genuinely cosmic disco gem. 'Echoes of Jerusalem', meanwhile, sees Santana make merry with a percussion-laden, mid-tempo workout that sits somewhere between cosmic rock and AOR disco. Obver five and a half must-check minutes, he successfully twists his obscure source material into an intoxicating dub disco masterpiece.
